Class 1A State Championship Game Preview

The Port St. Joe Sharks are looking to repeat to Class 1A state champs and it would be the school's fifth state title. The Sharks have quite a few playmakers on both sides of the ball.
On offense, Port St. Joe is led by QB Ethan Sander. The big 6'4" 220 pound junior signal caller has only completed 44 passes all season, but 17 of those went for touchdowns and he has tossed just 1 interception. Sander's favorite target is do it all senior Troy Williams. Williams has caught 16 passes for 387 yards and 8 tds, He also has scored 13 total touchdowns, intercepted 8 passes on defense, and serves as the team's punter, kick returner, and punt returner. Freshman RB Trey Sanders leads the ground game, he has rushed for 1,003 yards and 12 tds on just 87 carries, an eye popping 11.5 yards per carry!
Defensively, the Sharks are led by four senior defenders. Senior LB Marcell Johnson has 127 tackles, LB Milek Bailey has contributed 111 tackles, DE Umstead Sanders added 100 tackles to go along with 10 sacks, and DL Will Ramsey chipped in with 97 tackles and 20tfl. Sophomore DT Alvin Dempsey also is a major contributor with 108 tackles.
Port St. Joe's opponent in the Class 1A final will be the Trenton Tigers. Trenton is making their third appearance in the 1A final in the last four years. The Tigers won the Class 1A title in 2013 after finishing as state runner ups in 2012. Trenton also defeated Port St. Joe 48-13 at home in a week three regular season game.
Offensively, Trenton is led by all purpose athlete Hamp Cheevers. The senior has scored 28 total tds, rushed for 868 yards on just 82 carries with 18tds, caught 10 passes for 173 yards with 4tds, intercepted 5 passes on defense, and Cheevers also returns kicks and punts. Junior RB Montrez Jackson has 837 yards rushing and has scored 17 total tds.
On defense, the Tigers are led by a trio of players who specialize in tackling opponents behind the line of scrimmage. Senior Josh Smith is a huge DT that stands 6'0" tall and weighs 280 pounds. He has an amazing 31tfl! Senior LB Kade Rogers had 22tfl and sophomore SS Randy Fuller added 21tfl.
