Class 4A State Championship Game Preview

The Miami Booker T. Washington Tornadoes had quite a voyage en route to locking up a spot in the Class 4A  title game for a fifth straight season. BTW opened the season with a 35-3 blowout loss at state powerhouse Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and by week ten of the regular season, they were just 4-5. The Tornadoes have not loss a game since, winning their last five games and will now attempt to become the third school in FHSAA history to win four state titles in a row. Tallahassee North Florida Christian was the last school to pull of the feat when they won four straight from 1998-2001. Live Oak Suwannee also won four straight from 1987-1990.

BTW comes into the Class 4A title game with an offense led by freshman QB Daniel Richardson who has completed 63% of his passes for 2,553 yards and 30tds. His favorite target is senior WR Raymond Flanders who has caught 64 passes for 1,016 yards and 12tds.

Richardson will also look to get the ball to senior WRs Darrius Scott(50 rec 676 yds 6tds) and Gustavious Dames(30 rec 455 yds 7tds). The Tornadoes' defense is led by Jaquan Beaver who has 88 tackles and 17 sacks.

The opponent for BTW is the 12-1 Jacksonville Raines Vikings. Raines is making an appearance is a state title game for they first time since 1997. That season, Raines defeated Belle Glade Glades Central 32-27 to win the Class 4A state championship.

The Vikings come into this game bringing plenty of weapons on offense and a very stout defense.

Senior QB Augie DeBiase leads the Raines offense, he has completed 61% of his passes for 2,048 yards and 27tds, he also rushed for 310 yards and 5tds. DeBiase will look to get the ball in the hands of senior WRs Ronald Patterson (32 rec 660 yds 12tds) and Rick Wells (29 rec 512 yds 6tds). Wells also has completed 2 out of 2 pass attempts for 108 yards and has scored on a rushing td. Do it all junior athlete Willie Wright is also another to keep an eye on. He has over 1,000 all purpose yards and has scored 12 tds in four different ways! Wright has scored 5 tds on receptions, 1 rushing td, 1 kick return for a td, and has electrified crowds with 5 PUNT RETURN TDS! Senior RB Alex Rutledge paces the running game with 1,040 yards rushing and 11 tds, he also added 3 more tds receiving. The Viking defense is also a force, they have 7 shutouts in their 12 wins!
