There are only 40 games remaining in the Florida high school football season and once those are played, we'll have state champions in 8 different classifications. As we enter round three of the FHSAA football playoffs, there are still 11 undefeated teams in the state that are in pursuit of perfection.
Listed below are the 11 teams that still remain undefeated.
Jacksonville Mandarin Mustangs (12-0) 8A-1
Mandarin continues their "Pursuit of perfection" this Friday with a home game with Winter Garden West Orange. The Mustangs looked really stout on defense after blanking Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley 20-0 last week, Lake Brantley came into that game averaging 40 points per contest.
Delray Beach Atlantic Eagles (12-0) 8A-10
Atlantic has a game on the road at Pembroke Pines Flanagan this week, Flanagan has not given up ZERO points in the first two rounds of the playoffs! The Eagles "Pursuit of perfection" gets much tougher this week.
Bradenton Braden River Pirates (12-0) 7A-11
The Pirates have made their deepest playoff run in school history, advancing to the regional championship game for the first time. Braden River will continue their "Pursuit of perfection" on the road this Friday at Plant City.
Seffner Armwood Fighting Hawks (12-0) 6A-7
Armwood has been a state powerhouse for quite sometime and are playing in the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season with three state championships and four state runner up finishes during that span. As the Fighting Hawks continue their "Pursuit of perfection", they face a familiar opponent at home in Gainesville, a team Armwood will be meeting in the regional finals for the fourth time in the last five years.
Punta Gorda Charlotte Tarpons (12-0) 6A-10
Charlotte has been putting up big numbers(41.6 points per game) on offense and small numbers(8.5 points per game) on defense this season. The Tarpons are in the FHSAA playoffs for an eighth consecutive season and continue their "Pursuit of perfection" on the road this Friday with a game at Naples, arguably the best team in Southwest Florida.
Brooksville Nature Coast Tech Sharks (12-0) 5A-7
The Sharks bring a high powered offense to the table in their "Pursuit of perfection". They are averaging 44.5 points per contest and will need all of that production this Friday as they travel to take on Green Cove Springs Clay County, winners of a 65-58 shootout over Citra North Marion last week.
Tampa Jesuit Tigers (12-0) 5A-10
Jesuit has a home date with Fort Myers Dunbar this Friday and will need to find a way to score some points in their "Pursuit of perfection". Dunbar has only given up FIVE points in their first two playoff games.
Jacksonville Trinity Christian Conquerors (12-0) 3A-2
Trinity Christian, the best small school program in the Sunshine State continues their "Pursuit of perfection" this Friday on the road as they take on Tampa Catholic in the Class 3A state semifinals. The Conquerors have won the last two Class 3A state championships and are seeking their fourth state title in the last seven years.
Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders (12-0) 3A-5
The Marauders, Class 3A state runner ups in 2013 have a tough obstacle to overcome this Friday in their "Pursuit of perfection". They play at Delray Beach American Heritage in the Class 3A state semifinals. American Heritage were state runner ups in Class 3A last season, they have made appearances in a state championship game five of the previous eight seasons, and they hoisted the trophy three times during that stretch.
Tampa Cambridge Christian Lancers (11-0) 2A-5
Cambridge Christian has a home date on Friday evening with Naples First Baptist in their "Pursuit of perfection". If the Lancers win, they will advance to the Class 2A State Championship Game in their first playoff appearance in school history!
Trenton Tigers (12-0) 1A-7
Trenton has a tall order to complete this Friday in their "Pursuit of perfection", The Tigers play at Madison County. Madison's 9-3 record is a bit misleading, two of those losses were to Class 5A playoff teams. Madison plays in Class 1A and were runner ups in Class 3A in 2011 and 2012. Trenton is on a roll this season, they have mercy ruled(running clock in effect after one team leads by 35 points or more) all 10 regular season opponents and they are seeking their third appearance in the Class 1A State Championship in the last four years. The Tigers won the 2013 Class 1A championship and finished as runner ups in 2012.
