FHSAA Football Reclassifications for 2024-2025 & 2025-2026

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has classified football teams back to an original structure of 8 classifications comprised of seven A classifications and one rural classification.
Florida's previous classifications featured Metro, Suburban, and Rural area class designations, whereas Metro classifications were comprised of the 8 most population dense counties in the state of Florida.
These classifications are tentative until January 20, which will allow teams to file an appeals process if they are disgruntled about their proper placement.
All Classes are based on population of schools as defined per the FHSAA below:
1R: 111-558 (32 teams)
1A: 61-643 (61 teams)
2A: 644-1,166 (61 teams)
3A: 1,167-1,542 (63 teams)
4A: 1,543-1,822 (65 teams)
5A: 1,823-2,135 (66 teams)
6A: 2,136-2,512 (67 teams)
7A: 2,512-4,627 (69 teams)

The Florida High School Athletic Association supervises and regulates interscholastic athletic programs for high school students at member public, private and charter schools. The organization also recognizes and honors academic achievement among student-athletes at over 800 middle, junior and senior high schools statewide. Headquartered in Gainesville, it is the official governing body for interscholastic athletics in Florida.
