FHSAA sticks to original start dates for Football

The Florida High School Athletic Association decided to stick to their original start date for football.
The #FHSAA BOD meeting lasts 4 hrs, 56 min!
Motion passed 10-5 to stick to original schedule: 1st day of practice can start NEXT Monday, July 27th!
Teams can opt in/opt out state series!
If they opt out, can play regular season games ... up to end of state series
During an emergency Board of Directors meeting called July 20, 2020 with the fate of the
Dr. Jennifer Maynard, Chair of the FHSAA Sport Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC), placed three recommendations before the board.

The FHSAA decision will definitely impact some areas and counties more than other and may cause a rift in how there is equitability statewide. Several areas of the state have been more impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with South Florida notably been labeled as a national epicenter. With continued increasing cases statewide, many counties and football programs will opt to place the well being of their players, football staff, and school community at a premium, but suffer in an athletic sense with players possibly only allowed to play less than half a season.
