BISHOP MOORE EDGES EASTSIDE 45-44 IN A WILD SHOOTOUT

GAINESVILLE -- The Orlando Bishop Moore Hornets used four rushing touchdowns by Malachi Rennie, two long touchdown passes, and a 23 yard field goal in the final minute of regulation to defeat Anthony Richardson and his Gainesville Eastside Rams 45-44 in a wild seesaw battle at Citizens Field.

Rennie got the fireworks started for Bishop Moore with a one yard touchdown run to make it 7-0. Richardson then got his Rams on the board a minute and 39 seconds later when he tossed a 32 yard touchdown to Jaquan Lee to tie the score at seven at the 5:47 mark of the first quarter. The Hornets responded within a minute and 24 seconds when wide receiver Dylan Brazil took a hand off from quarterback Bryce McGill and tossed a 47 yard touchdown pass to Stephen Martin to give Bishop Moore a 14-7 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter. Eastside answered with a touchdown exactly 45 seconds later when Anthony Richardson scored on a one yard touchdown run after Jaquan Lee returned the kickoff 83 yards to the Bishop Moore 11 yard line. The Rams missed the extra point which made the score 14-13 in favor of Bishop Moore with 3:38 remaining in the opening quarter. Malachi Rennie scored on his second rushing touchdown with an 11 yard run run on the final play of the first quarter, giving the Hornets a 21-13 lead heading into the second quarter.

Malachi Rennie picked up where he left off in the first quarter when he scored is third touchdown on a run from 14 yards out giving the Hornets a 28-13 lead with 7:41 left before halftime. Anthony Richardson made a Harry Houdini like move to avoid getting sacked by Bishop Moore's Karlis Bailey-Vice and tossed a 20 yard touchdown pass to Jaquan Lee on the final play of the first half to make the score 28-19.

Richardson connected with Arnold Strachan for a 38 yard touchdown pass to close the gap to 28-26 with 5:18 left in the third quarter. On the following possession, Bishop Moore quarterback Bryce McGill fumbled the ball, Eastside defensive back Draco James picked up the loose ball, and raced 53 yards for a touchdown! The score gave Eastside their first lead of the game, 32-28 with 4:08 left in the third quarter. The Hornets made a change at the quarterback position on their next possession by replacing Bryce McGill with Luke Hedrick. Hedrick wasted no time in letting his presence be known, he tossed an 80 yard touchdown pass to Stephen Martin on his first play in the game, which gave Bishop Moore a 35-32 lead. The Rams responded when Richardson tossed a 19 yard touchdown pass to Carlteon Brooks which gave Eastside a 38-35 lead with 46 seconds left in the third quarter.

Bishop Moore's Malachi Rennie score his fourth rushing touchdown from one yard out to give the Hornets a 42-38 lead with 7:37 remaining in the final quarter. Richardson scored his second rushing touchdown of the night with an eight yard run which gave Eastside a 44-42 lead with 4:27 left in the game. The final points of the game were scored when Bishop Moore kicker Kyle Garzon made a clutch 23 yard field goal to give the Hornets lead 45-44 with under a minute left in the game.

Both schools had their share of young men who made big plays throughout the game. Eastside's Anthony Richardson completed 20 of 30 passes for 403 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Richardson also had two rushing touchdowns. Jaquan Lee caught six passes for 197 yards and two scores. Lee also added an 83 yard kickoff return. Wide receivers Arnold Strachan and Carlteon Brooks added three catches for 81 yards and seven catches for 84 yards respectively. Both also had one touchdown reception. Bishop Moore's Malachi Rennie had over 100 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. Stephen Martin had over 100 yards receiving including touchdown receptions of 80 and 47 yards. Kicker Kyle Garzon was perfect on extra points and nailed the game winning 23 yard field with 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter.




Eastside is now 0-2 after their second consecutive defeat by one point and the host Gainesville P.K. Yonge (0-2) next week. After the close win, Bishop Moore improved to 1-1 and the Hornets host Severn(MD) Archbishop Spalding (1-0) next week.
