Former Quincy Shanks star QB Willie Simmons has been named the new Head Football Coach of the Florida A&M Rattlers, one of the nation's most prominent Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Simmons will succeed former full HC Alex Woods to become the FAMU's 18th full-time head football coach.
Simmons starred as one of the nation's best quarterbacks at Quincy Shanks, where he threw for 2,505 yards, and 32 TDs to become the Big Bend Offensive Player of the Year, garnering All-American honors.
Simmons, a highly-coveted prospect, chose Clemson over several other big colleges. He played for the Tigers from 2000-2002, producing several big wins for the Tigers. Under the tutelage of legendary Florida recruiter and QB guru Rick Stockstill, Simmons started to inherently develop his coaching abilities. (To date, Simmons lists Stockstill as his coaching mentor)
FULL GAME: Clemson's Willie Simmons guides the Tigers to 38-24 victory over UNC
Simmons had a true game plan, graduating in only 3 years with a degree in Services (Sports) Marketing. After graduation, Simmons chose to transfer to play his senior season with fellow in-state college The Citadel.
This is an exciting time for FAMU: A new head coach with loyal strong ties to their program, and the University is spending money on appealing upgrades their football program and facilities, highlighted by their field renovation of Bragg Stadium.
Simmons returns to Tallahassee with his wife Shaia, and their four children: Raven, Shailoh, Louis III, Wraylon.
