Trinity Christian HC Verlon Dorminey Jacksonville Trinity Christian HC Verlon Dorminey and his Conquerors will seek their 4th straight title

With a victory in Saturday morning's FHSAA Class 3A state championship game, the Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors will become the fifth school to win four consecutive FHSAA state championships! The Conquerors would join the Live Oak Suwannee Bulldogs (1987-1990), the Tallahassee North Florida Christian Eagles(1998-2001), the Miami Booker T. Washington Tornadoes (2012-2015), and the Miami Central Rockets(2012-2015) in that prestigious group. Trinity Christian would win their seventh state championship since 2002, and they also finished as state runner-up in 2009, as well as 1999

Trinity Christian (10-3) has outscored opponents 143-32 in their first three playoff games. They had the luxury of hosting all three schools, crushing Perry Taylor County 64-16 in round one, dominating Tallahassee Florida Senior High 38-7 in round two, and trouncing Tampa Berkeley Prep 41-9 in the FHSAA Class 3A semifinals.

The Conquerors offense is led by senior running back Rasheed Martin, who has 1,275 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns. Sophomore Marcus Crowley added 350 yards rushing and four scores. Freshman Kyjuan Herndon contributed 296 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Senior D.J. Matthews provides an offensive spark in a variety of ways. He has 364 yards rushing, 294 yards receiving, 686 yards passing, and 17 combined touchdowns. Quarterback Legend Brumbaugh, a 6'3" 210 pound senior, passed for 1,273 yards and 14 scores. He will look to get the ball to senior Shaun Wade, who has 26 catches for 507 yards and 6 touchdowns. Senior Farell Turner chipped in 18 catches,272 yards, and four touchdowns. Matthews, along with sophomores Dylan Pate (9 catches 251 yards 4 tds) and Isaiah Washington(13 catches 247 yards 4tds) also provide additional targets for Brumbaugh.

When Trinity Christian is on defense, junior defensive back Chamarri Conner (94 tackles) and junior linebacker Eriq Gilyard(81 tackles, 12 tackles for loss) lead the charge. Senior defensive end Deon Pate led the team with 10.5 sacks and also added 15.5 tackles for loss. Senior Brian Roberts registered 16 tackles for loss along with eight sacks. Shaun Wade also added six interceptions from his defensive back position.

The Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Lions are making their fifth appearance in a FHSAA state championship game. The Lions won Class 2A state championships in 2003 and 2005. They also finished as state runner-up in Class 2A in 2002 and in 3A during the 1974 season.

Chaminade-Madonna (10-3) cruised during the first three rounds of the playoffs, outscoring their opponents 114-30 during those games. The Lions shutout West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman 42-0 at home in the first round, then followed that up with a 30-13 upset over West Palm Beach Oxbridge Academy, also played at home. Last week, Chaminade-Madonna went on the road and dominated Melbourne Central Catholic 42-17.

Offensively, the Lions are led by junior running back and Auburn University commit Shaun Shivers. Shivers has rushed for 1,429 yards and 19 touchdowns. Keondre White, also a junior, rushed for 652 yards and six touchdowns. Senior quarterback Henry Colombi has passed for 1,111 yards and 11 touchdowns. Colombi also added 444 yards rushing and six scores on the ground. Wide receiver Josh Ali is a 6'1" senior who hauled in 38 catches for 500 yards and eight touchdowns. Junior Xavier Williams stands 6'2" and he snagged 30 receptions for 646 yards and six scores.

Defensively, Chaminade-Madonna has good size on the defensive line with senior defensive lineman Chris Whittaker (6'4" 265) and junior Cory Prince (6'0" 265). Whittaker has seven sacks and Prince has nine. Senior linebackers Cody Watson (19 sacks) and Hunter Buckman (9 sacks) are also solid defenders. Sophomore defensive back Tecory Couch leads the team with five interceptions.
