Class 6A State Championship Game Preview

The Seffner Armwood Hawks are making their fourth appearance in the Class 6A state championship in the last five years. The Hawks have been perfect so far this season, claiming victories in all 14 games this season, including last week's 53-19 smashing of Gonzales Tate in the Class 6A semifinals.

Armwood comes into the game with a very productive ground attack that has produced two 1,000 yard rushers. Sophomore running back Brian Snead has rushed for 1,206 yards and 17 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Darrian McNeal has gained 1,160 yards on the ground and scored 2o touchdowns! Sophomore Jerome Ford(346 yards rushing) and junior Erin Collins(547 yards rushing 409 yards receiving 11 combined tds) may also get carries.

Darrian McNeal has passed for 1,626 yards with 15 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He will be throwing to senior Trevor Laurent(60 catches 648 yards 4tds), junior Dennis Harris(18 catches 240 yards 3tds), and senior Eric Collins Jr.(8 catches 210 yards 2tds).

The Hawks defense is led by a quartet of linebackers, three of which are seniors. Kyheem Campbell(126 tackles 13tfl 10 sacks), Justin Manning(106 tackles 10tfl 1 sack), Dedarallo Blue(84 tackles 12tfl 12 sacks), and junior Charles "CJ" Jones(68 tackles 16tfl 6 sacks) will try to make it tough for the opposing offense.

Senior defensive back Tyler Scott(36 tackles) and junior DB(46 tackles 3tfl) make up half of a solid Armwood secondary.

The Central Rockets have been in the Class 6A state championship game every year this decade and are trying to become the fourth school in history to win four consecutive state championships. Central will face a Seffner Armwood squad that it has defeated them in the 2011 Class 6A final, but the Rockets have beaten Armwood in the last two Class 6A title games.

The Rockets have a deep backfield with four guys who can carry the ball. Seniors Kenio Mike(71 carries 512 yards 3tds) and Khori Roberts(90 carries 223 yards 2tds) team up with junior Kywan Smith(108 carries 617 yards 5tds) and freshman James Cook(77 carries 537 yards 5tds) to lead the ground attack. Cook is the younger brother of FSU running back Dalvin Cook.

Quarterback Jerrod Thomas has thrown for 1,638 yards with 19 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He will toss aerials to seniors Darnell Salomon(25 catches 468 yards 7tds) and Kahmanie Carter(20 catches 430 yards 5tds). Juniors Jernard Phillips(24 cathces 451 yards 7tds) and Carmoni Green(23 catches 312 yards 3tds) give Thomas two more targets in the passing game.

Central has three seniors anchoring their defensive line led by Keir Thomas(76 tackles 25tfl 20 sacks). Eric Mitchell(52 tackles 16tfl 8 sacks) and Kenny Turner(49 tackles 11tfl 3 sacks) also make plays as well.

Senior linebacker Donovan Thompson leads the Rockets in tackles with 113, he also has 12tfl and 11 sacks. Two senior defensive backs, Jamel Cook(5 ints) and Jamal Hudson(4 ints) lead the secondary.

PREDICTION: MIAMI CENTRAL ROCKETS 21                                                                                                                  SEFFNER ARMWOOD HAWKS 19
