QB JEFF SIMS
, Georgia Tech University
Sandalwood Saints
-- Jacksonville (First Coast Area)
vs. Florida State University:
"THE STONE THAT THE BUILDER REFUSE, WILL BE THE HEAD CORNERSTONE" True Freshman Jeff Sims had something to prove... and rightfully so! Sims, the highly heralded QB from Jacksonville Sandalwood, had been a long time FSU commit, until the reigns of Florida State's football program changed to new coach Mike Norvell. Reportedly, Norvell notified Sims that he didn't fit his system, thus they wouldn't honor his commitment. Tough, but motivational, for the young Sims. Sims ultimately signed to Georgia Tech. In his college debut, in the first game of the season, they would happen to meet Norvell and his Seminoles, in Tallahassee's Doak Campbell Stadium, not far from his native Jacksonville. Sims shine. He did throw two interceptions (both to Asante Samuel), but down the line, the true freshman maintained composure, and nailed a nice TD to keep his yellow Jackets in the game. Sims had 24 completions out of 35 attempts, for 277 yards, 1TD and 2 INT. He also led all rushers on the ground with 13 carries for 64 yards. A NICE WINNING DEBUT FOR SIMS.
