Trenton claims the Class 1A State Championship

The school from Gilchrist County knows what it means to key their eyes on the prize. After a tough 42-21 loss to Bratt Northview in last year's 1A state title game, the Trenton Tigers were on a mission from that point to achieve what they did today: Become Class 1A State Champions.
Trenton had a daunting task facing an undefeated 13-0 Blountstown team with a vaunted defense, coming in with 8 shutouts. Instead the Tigers, the Trenton Tigers reversed roles and gave their opponents the goose egg, Blountstown's only scoreless game of the season.
Coach Andrew Thomas stressed unfinished business all season and knew in the season finale knew that it would be up to his playmakers to make plays and they delivered.
Super sophomore Hamp Cheevers had two catches for 102 yards a TD as his Tigers took care of unfinished business. Cheevers got Trenton off to a quick start by catching a nice 54 yard strike from quarterback Stephen Smith early in the 1st Quarter.
The Tigers several times took advantage of slot posts and crossing routes.
Michael Smith sealed the victory with a pick in the 3rd quarteR, taking it to the house 35 yards on a determined return, to out his Tigers 14-0.
Cheevers ends his sophomore campaign with 27 catches for 574 yards receiving, 6 interceptions and a whopping 20 TDs.
